Future Yayes
Strong Girls, Big Voices
Future Yayes, Yaye meaning sister in Arrernte. Was established out of a need identified by the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group (TWFSG) in 2022, to have the next generation included in the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) primary prevention space.
Future Yayes acknowledge member’s readiness, build young women’s confidence, self-esteem and how that impacts their ability to step into leadership roles. Future Yayes aims to educate young people about DFSV and healthy relationships. Responding to a gap in resources aimed at young people’s experiences. Future Yayes members share their knowledge and expertise about DFSV from a young person’s perspective, in a Central Australian context.
Future Yayes is made up of a core group of members from different Town Camps, with 2 full time co-coordinators, 1 Indigenous and 1 non-Indigenous. The co-coordinators ensure the group is culturally safe, strength-based and trauma informed way so young people are centered and engagement is being done in a fun inclusive way.
We’d like to thank Dangerous Females for all their support.
