MBCP

Men’s Behaviour Change Program

The Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) is offered through Tangentyere with the aim of increasing the safety of women and children who are at risk of family violence. The program offers two-hour weekly group sessions over a period of 16 weeks, facilitated by two qualified workers who make up part of the larger Family Violence Prevention team at Tangentyere.

Sessions are structured around targeting men’s choice to use violence, including accepting responsibility, building empathy for women and children and learning ways to act safely. Referrals are accepted for all men, indigenous and non-indigenous, with cultural safety and accessibility a core standard of the program.

The program partners with the Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WOSSCA), who work alongside women whose partner’s attend the program. Women’s voices, experiences and perspectives are at the centre of the program delivery.

The Men’s Behaviour Change Program exists as part of an integrated service response to family, domestic and sexual violence, with men’s accountability best achieved through information sharing and wholistic responses.
