What is Supporting
Healing for Families?

Supporting Healing for Families (SHFF) is a healing program for Aboriginal people impacted by child sexual abuse and/or sexual assault. SHFF links into both cultural healing and Western healing supports, offering people choice, flexibility and agency over their own healing journey. We understand that healing looks different for everyone and that a client’s healing needs may change over time. SHFF checks in with the client to review their healing plan regularly.

SHFF is guided by the knowledge and expertise of the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group and the Tangentyere Men’s Family Safety Group. Their governance ensures culturally relevant and safe healing activities for Town Campers. SHFF is here to walk alongside Town Campers on their own terms, at their own pace.

Our Work

Supporting Healing for Families works across four key areas:

Community awareness and education

SHFF works side-by-side with community to develop campaigns to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse. By increasing community awareness about prevention and response, SHFF aims to reduce the stigma, shame and silence around child sexual abuse.

Capability strengthening

SHFF works with service providers and community groups on how to recognise and respond to child sexual abuse.  This includes building sector and community awareness of the Mparntwe support service landscape and how to refer to a wide range of supports.

Individual healing journeys

SHFF works one-on-one with individuals to understand their healing goals, map their healing journey and link them into healing, therapeutic and social support services in the community.

Group healing

SHFF recognises that healing rarely happens in isolation. The program supports families and communities to access group cultural healing activities, on Country and in town.
